I stumbled across an interesting article about the way climate and space in Japan affect laundry habits.
According to this article, Japanese people are quite environmentally conscious so they prefer to air dry their clothes on a balcony rather than using electric dryers.
Because the climate is humid and living spaces typically small, they tend to wash small amounts frequently rather than allowing laundry to pile up.
Many of their washing machines now come with a pump so that water can be re-used from the bath tub.I just love how their manufacturers keep thinking of new ways to make things more practical.
